Founded on January 25, 1941, it is a multi-specialty center of training, retraining and upgrading the skills of engineers, programmers, managers, economists and lawyers, and a large scientific center considered the post prestigious center for learning how to build airplanes both in Russia and abroad. Faculty of evening classes were opened in 1951.

It is confirmed by the careers of our graduates, which include many prominent scientists, scientific and industrial leaders, public figures including I. A. Glebov, academician, who many years headed the Leningrad Branch of the Academy of Science of the USSR, A. N. Serioznov, the director of the Siberian research institute of aviation named after S. A. Chaplygin, A. N. Serioznov, academician of the Russian Academy of Science. V. V. Simakov, the Doctor of Technical Science, Laureate of the State Premium of the USSR, the director of the Design Office of experimental works of Russian Agency of Control Systems, M. M. Miroshnikov, Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Science who had been the leader of the Russian Agricultural Institute named after S. I. Vavilov for more than 20 years, L. I. The results of LETI’s research work are implemented in companies and research centers of the USA, Finland, China, France. The University co-operates with such companies as Motorola, Intel, Microsoft, AMD, Parsytec, etc. with which education and research centers were established.

ETU participates in the major European programs: Tempus (Tacis), FP6, FP7. Traditionally the University works with international associations SEFI, EAIE, cooperates with national funds and organizations (CIMO, DAAD, Swedish Institute).

Saint Petersburg Electrotechnical University “LETI” founded in 1886 is regarded as one of the world largest education and research centres in Radio Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronics and Computer Science.

In 1891 it was reorganized into the Imperial Institute of Electrical Engineering – the first higher education institution in Europe for training engineers and researches in the field of Electrical Engineering.

A. S. Popov, the inventor of the radio, worked in this institute. There is a memorial museum to A. S. Popov in the institute. Z. I. Alferov, Nobel Laureate of Physics for his achievements in the field of heterostructure, also worked this institute. At one point he was a dean of the faculty electrotechnics (now faculty of electronics).

There is a legend that V. I. Lenin hid from the police at the University. Now the room where he hid is unofficially called “Lenin’s Lecture Hall”.

LETI has more than 1000 highly-qualified staff (a 70% Ph.D. rate), 30 of them have Russian and international prizes. More than 30 academicians and members of the Russian Academy of Science worked at LETI. In twenties of the 20th century LETI took significant part in development of electrification plans of Russia.

LETI is the Alma Mater for over 70000 students and over 3000 international students.

St. Petersburg Pavlov State Medical University offers postgraduate educational program (internship, residency, fellowship courses) for medical graduates in more than 40 medical specialties. Every year more than 300 physicians undergo postgraduate training.

• University has following Scientific Research Institutes:
• Scientific Research Institute of Cardio-Vascular Pathology
• Scientific Research Institute of Pulmonology
• Scientific Research Institute of Nephrology
• Scientific Research Institute of Pharmacology
• Scientific Research Institute of Bone Marrow Transplantation

The research activity is also conducted by all the chairs and by 48 scientific laboratories and more than 20 clinical laboratories (breath physiology investigation; cardiovascular system physiology investigation, clinical biochemistry etc)

The University regularly organizes the work of local (mostly for practical doctors’ education), all-Russian and international scientific conferences; its specialists participate in scientific conferences held abroad (USA, European countries etc) Clinical (for clinical departments) and scientific activity are obligatory parts of work of all teaching staff.

Some clinical departments of the University work with other Clinical Research Institutes and big clinical centers of St. Petersburg, which are not directly included in our structure but are conduct joint research work with the University:
