Program Concentrations
Master in International Business includes complex of such options as elective courses, consultative project, summer internship, Master’s Thesis defense. The program provides opportunity to choose either of the two following directions with a profound focused learning in specializations of International Management, International Logistics and Supply Chain Management. The choice of each concentration is offered on a competitive basis in accordance with the ranking of academic progress during the first semester.

International Management
International Management profile presupposes independent choice of student’s concentration area which is to develop professional, analytical and research competencies. The profile allows to choose individual portfolio of elective courses, Master Thesis direction, focusing on the areas of studies such as general and strategic management, marketing, organizational behavior and personnel management, knowledge management and others. The profile provides in-depth learning of all major areas of management in global context.

International Logistics and Supply Chain Management
The profile is worked out as a result of joint activity of Deutsche Bahn and Russian Railways Center for International Logistics and Supply Chain Management directed to development of higher education and financed by Russian Railways. The specialist field is targeted to preparation of highly qualified specialists and top managers in the sphere of logistics and supply chain management. The graduates are to be qualified for performing effective professional activity in the field of integration logistic operations and company logistic system management, they also will be able to function as leading analysts, researches, department directors and logistics directors in the global shipping companies, industrial and service companies.

Program Structure
The 2 year program consists of 4 semesters of studies including one semester spent abroad at one of the business schools of our partners. The Program curriculum includes core courses and elective courses, compulsory internship, Consulting Project and Master Thesis. The instruction language through the entire program is English.

MIB Coursework

The coursework in Master in International Business (MIB) program is organized around three blocks: management disciplines and research courses (Core, 30 ECTS), advanced international business courses (Core & Electives, 50 ECTS), and Electives (20 ECTS). All program courses stem from the highest standards of business education and contemporary international business practice. Teaching methods include active interaction and peer review methods. Our corporate partners are engaged in the teaching process as guest lecturers which helps to combine theoretical courses with the practical training and workshops of leading managers from the world leading Russian and international companies.

Master Thesis
Each student works on the Master Thesis being supervised by a scientific advisor. The scientific advisor is chosen basing on the student’s area of research (described in his/her research proposal during the research seminar). Students start to work on their Master Thesis in the first semester and continue until the final presentation of the Theses at the end of the program. Each semester students submit reports on their research progress. The Master Thesis is expected to include results of an empirical study pursued by a student.

Advanced Opportunities in Learning Process

1. Summer Internship. After the first year of study each student has to pass a summer internship with one of the corporate partners. This component of the program is aimed to help each student to apply their theoretical knowledge and practical skills to the real business environment. Internships last for at least 6 weeks and are being held at the leading Russian and international companies.

2. Study Abroad Semester. All Master in International Business students must spend a semester abroad at one of the partner business schools. There are now more that 50 agreements with leading universities and business schools in Europe, North America and Asia. It is recommended that the study abroad shall be completed during the second or the third semester of the program. Results of the coursework accomplished abroad are acknowledged due to the transfer principles of ECTS.

3. Consulting Project. Consulting projects are designed to join theory and practice and to develop students’ project management, teamwork and leadership skills. Each student works as a part of a small international team on consulting project by a real corporate partner. The projects are jointly supervised and evaluated by both company representative and a project supervisor from the University. The project results in presentation of the business situation and proposed solutions to the client company and the defense committee at the end of the semester.

4. Manager Professional Skill seminars. Master in International Business program is also focused on giving to the future international managers all essential skills they need to succeed in the global market. The practical skills workshops teach how to communicate ideas in the academic and business world, how to launch a successful professional career and how to adjust easily to a cross-cultural management environment. Different workshops and soft skills training are designed to broaden students scope and practical knowledge. Curriculum includes business writing, negotiation skills, working-out communication and social skills, teamwork and presentation skills. Russian and international corporate partners of the University are actively involved in all skills training seminars.

5. Foreign Language Proficiency. Master in International Business graduates are given an opportunity to study a second foreign language in order to obtain an additional competitive advantage. Therefore, obtaining proficiency in a foreign language other than English is required from all program participants as a part of their curriculum. All students are supposed to take three semesters of one foreign language – French, German or Spanish (or Russian for international students).
